I’m so excited to be presenting at a conference in person again and discussing what I’m currently passionate about, sustainable success.
While I love that Zoom gives me the opportunity to speak all over the world, there is nothing like being at a conference in person.
I will be speaking at the AVA Brisbane Practitioners Conference, held at the wonderful Stradbroke Island on March 6 and 7th.
My session is Sustainable Success, How to Burn Brightly Without Burning Out.
So many veterinarians, especially in the early years, work so hard for so long without a break which can lead to burnout. Some never recover their pre-burnout performance and productivity which is devastating.
We do have a culture of long hours, avoiding taking breaks and holidays and working at 100% for 10+ hours each day. Logging on from home and never being able to switch off is another bad habit many have developed. This isn’t sustainable for your physical or cognitive health. As the environment has seasons, so does out body. We have periods of peak performance but we also need periods of rest to recover and recharge.
In the session, I will discuss how new and recent graduates need to look at their career from the perspective of 30-40 years, which means they have time to learn and gain experience. I remember thinking I had to know it all and be able to do it all within the first few years. I felt I was always behind and I put so much pressure on myself. When I started to look at my career through a lens of 30-40 years, it took the self-imposed pressure off. I could relax and enjoy myself.
I’m also discussing finding meaning and purpose in practice and finding the joy in what we do every single day.
I hope you can attend the BVP Conference and attend my session. It will make you think differently about success and how to make it sustainable. It’s a great conference in a beautiful location and so much fun!
