Last week I needed more makeup. I didn’t want it but needed it.
I’m not really a makeup person. I have sensitive skin and find a lot of products disagree with it. Plus growing up riding horses every weekend, the last thing I was interested in was doing my hair or makeup!
Now I wear makeup when I have to and I have to wear it to work. Not because my employer requests it but because I know the importance of appearances to clients and how I present myself can determine their perception of me.
Plus as I am not getting younger, makeup does make a difference to how I look!!
I needed a new eye pencil.
As it’s been a while since I bought one (as in years), they all looked different now. I had 2 supposedly ill children who couldn’t go to school (I was conned), so I quickly chose one. This was a good thing as normally I will chose the same brand and product as I am familiar with it. What that really means is that it is a safe purchase for me within my comfort zone.
For anyone who knows about increased performance and achievement, staying in your comfort zone and being safe will never get your there!
The next day for work I put my new lipstick on and used the new eye pencil.
Wow!! What a difference it made. I really liked it!
I used it again the next day and I had the same great results. It was still on 8 hours later. With my old makeup, within a few hours it had rubbed off.
I began to think about what advances had occurred in makeup that I wasn’t aware of which would make it easier for me to use.
So what does this have to do with veterinary medicine you may ask?
I didn’t even know I needed this pencil or the benefits of it until after I had used it. I didn’t know what I didn’t know.
Most veterinarians in practice are working hard in the trenches and rarely take a break to consider their options for improvement and change. They don’t know what they don’t know. They don’t recognise what is changing and how it is affecting the veterinary profession which will ultimately affect their practice.
Staying with your head down in the trenches becomes a comfort zone. The comfort zone is the enemy of progress.
When was the last time you considered not what you wanted but what you need to progress in your career?
Have you really thought about it lately and taken the steps to achieve this or is it something that you will get to later?
This is where the expert guidance of someone who has experience in our field is valuable. Someone who knows what our career involves. The up & downs. The joys and frustrations. The path to navigate for continued success.
If you aren’t where you want to be in your career or in your practice, you can’t do it alone. Accelerate your progress with the assistance of a coach/consultant.
Every great athlete is where they are today because of their coaches. A coach is able to see aspects of their performance that can be improved and/or adjusted that will contribute to their achievement.
My speciality is in assisting associate veterinarians. How to overcome the many challenges veterinarians are presented with daily. How to cope with clients and build strong relationships. How to find the right practice for you. How to be paid a salary and income you know you are worth.
For practice owners and veterinarians wanting to buy a practice or into a partnership, I advise working with Diederik Gelderman from Turbocharge Your Practice.
I have worked in a practice where Diederik’s principles & advice was implemented and it made a tremendous difference. They are simple to understand and easy to implement for the whole team. Another words, his advice doesn’t get put into the ‘too hard basket to be looked at when we have more time’.
Diederik is holding his only Australian workshop in Sydney at the end of October and I would highly recommend attending it.
